Meeting Minutes

The Newtown Cultural Arts Commission held a meeting on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at the Newtown Municipal Center, Meeting Room 1.

Members Present: Robert Rabinowitz, Laura Lerman, Donna Mangiafico, Donna Jennifer Rogers, Robert Kaiser, Donna Randle,

Members Absent: Ted Kreinik, Jennifer Johnston, Andrea Spencer

Guests: Linda Parsloe, Terry Sagedy,

Jennifer Johnston called the meeting to order at 7:34 PM.

  • Minutes: Minutes of May28th, NCAC meeting, approved unanimously.

  • Arts Festival Sponsor donations are coming in
  • More donations have come in from HealingNewtown
  • NCAC’s budget for 2013-14 from town is $5,000
  • NCAC scholarship checks have been processed
  • NCAC Auxiliary Members
  • Motion to vote in Linda Parsloe, Lindsay Kelkres and Sarah Baroody as NCAC Auxiliary Members, Lisa Schwartz by Robert Rabinowitz, Rob Kaiser. Approved unanimously.
  • Arts Festival
  • Terry Sagedy, Chairperson of the Arts Festival Special Committee:
  • The Festival needs more sponsors
  • Week-long strategy still in planning
  • Broadway Sings for Newtown – benefit for HealingNewtown as part of The Arts Festival – in planning stages – Walnut Hill Community Church
  • 85 booths reserved so far
  • Rooster Ball plans moving ahead very well
  • HealingNewtown
  • Governor’s Arts Awards – HealingNewtown received a special recognition
  • NEA Grant - $30,000
  • Donation from Newtown Memorial fund of $10,000 to HealingNewtown (THANK YOU)
  • Laura L will be focal point for search for HealingNewtown Director – 30K grant from NEA
  • Still waiting for lease signing on new location
  • Equipment and paintings has all been moved to our warehouse
  • CityCenter Danbury – July 21st fundraiser/concert for HealingNewtown
  • HealingNewtown has moved into its new location at Newtown Congregational Church
  • Newtown Cultural Arts Center
  • Rob K met with Fairfield Hills Authority to discuss Stratford Hall
  • We need to put in letter of intent for the location to Fairfield Hills Authority
  • Robert R sent out business plan for permanent art center – everyone to read it and send comments back to Robert
  • We need to meet with 1214 Foundation
  • Grants/Scholarships:
  • Scholarships – all applicants were wonderful
  • The 2 scholarships went to Sally Martinelli and Alex Lampel
  • Grants have been announced – deadline to apply is July 1st
  • Grants committee is Andrea, Donna R and Laura
  • Newsletter:
  • Lindsay Kelkres is helping Jen R with newsletter and calendar
  • Website:
  • Jen R & Rob K has updated the NCAC website
  • Mailboxes and folders are updated

  • Laura went to 6 hour seminar on public media

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:21pm
